The Aboriginal Health, Engagement and Workforce division acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land that we stand on today. We also pay our respects to Elders past, present and emerging.
The Aboriginal Health, Engagement and Workforce division within NT Health is dedicated to driving systemic and sustainable improvements in health outcomes for Aboriginal Territorians.
The division works to improve Aboriginal health by involving the community, making smart investments, and building a skilled workforce.
The division comprises of 2 key branches:
- Aboriginal Workforce and Cultural Security
- Aboriginal Health and Engagement.
- Aboriginal workforce development
- Community-led decision-making and pooled funding
- Structured community and stakeholder
- Engagement and partnerships

Types of jobs
- Administration Officer Level 2 - Provide administrative and project support to executive director and team.
- Aboriginal Liaison Officer - Assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients at the hospital by connecting them with services, helping with appointment and providing health information.
- Dental Assistant - Provide dental assistance in a professional manner, which will contribute to the improved oral health and wellbeing of clients, families and communities.
- Ground Transport - Provide transport services to clients. Coordinated transport service to designated points including private and commercial accommodation, airport and other locations.
- Cleaner/Gardener/Driver - Provide cleaning services for health clinics. Ensure clinics maintained in a hygienic, clean and tidy condition while adhering to work place health and safety policies and procedures. Light gardening and driving duties.
- Administration Officer Level 3 - Provide administrative and project support to executive director and divisions team.
- Nurse Clinical Specialist Remote - Applies advanced nursing/midwifery knowledge, skills, attributes and abilities within a specified area of clinical practice in therapeutic and professional relationships with individuals, as well as with families, groups and communities
- Groundsman - Under the guidance of the operations manager, take care of the grounds and gardens at, making sure they are safe and visually appealing. Also, handle outdoor maintenance tasks at the hospital housing complex as instructed.
- New Graduate Novice Aboriginal Health Practitioner - As a part of a multidisciplinary team, you must provide advocacy, health promotion, referral, reception and administration, clinical and cultural support as part of the Mental Health and Alcohol and Other Drug Service.
- Aboriginal Health Practitioner (Class 2) - Provide safe and effective healthcare that respects culture by preventing illness, detecting health issues early, providing early support and treatment.
- Specialist Aboriginal Health Practitioner (Class 3) - As a member of the multidisciplinary health team coordinate and provide culturally responsive and effective holistic health care service for clients with multiple needs and specialities; including treatment of illness and the promotion of health and well-being to achieve better health outcomes and prevent repeated hospitalisations.
- Specialist Aboriginal Health Practitioner (Level 4) - Oversee Aboriginal Primary Health Care programs in a culturally safe and effective way. You will work with a diverse team to provide treatment for illness, prevent and detect health issues early, promote overall wellbeing, keep accurate patient records in health systems, and lead health education and training for other health workers and the community.
Career opportunities
NT Health offers an NT Health Aboriginal Cadetship Program to support Aboriginal people to complete higher education health studies. The program is a key initiative to increase employment of Aboriginal people as health professionals.
The program helps eligible Aboriginal students undertaking a Diploma of Nursing - enrolled nurse, a health-related undergraduate degree, or postgraduate studies, to gain professional health qualifications and experience.
The cadetship includes:
- a study allowance of up to $1,200 per fortnight whilst studying full-time
- twelve weeks paid work placement with NT Health each year
- book allowance of up to $1,000 each year
- an incentive payment of up to $4,000 each year.
