This criterion has been set by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practice Board of Australia.

To become an Aboriginal health practitioner in the Northern Territory, you must:

  • Be registered with the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner Board in the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Hold the relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care Practice and/or equivalent qualifications.
  • Be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent.
  • Meet all other registration standards - including professional capabilities, criminal history, continuing professional development, a regency of practice, professional indemnity insurance arrangements, and English language skills.
